In France
Cercle de Qigong
Weekly Qigong in Crest, in the Drôme — a branch of Taiji Circle Lucky Dragon, led by Natalie Slater.
A branch in the Drôme
Part of our Qigong practice.
Cercle de Qigong is Taiji Circle’s branch in France. It opened in 2025 at Shifu Liu’s invitation and is led by Natalie Slater, his disciple and a long-standing London student.
It teaches the same two Qigong lineages taught in London: Jiu Jiu, the Daoist “9-9 Restorative Skill” of the Wang family tradition, and Da Bei, the Buddhist Great Compassion Qigong. Shifu Liu has taught both in the Drôme himself, at a three-day retreat Natalie organised — he gave the first course there in May 2026, covering Daoist and Buddhist Qigong alongside Chen Taiji.
So far as the school is aware, these are the first regular classes in either lineage in France.
What is taught
Jiu Jiu Qigong — flowing movement and breath, traditionally regarded as both preventative and restorative, and a foundational practice for martial arts training. More on Jiu Jiu.
Da Bei Qigong — the meditative Buddhist practice of Great Compassion, taught seated or standing and guided by breath and intention. Shifu Liu is a second-generation practitioner of this lineage and the first to spread the teachings in the West. More on Da Bei.
Both are taught as they are taught in London, adapted to a weekly class open to every level.
Natalie Slater
Natalie Slater has practised Taiji, Qigong and meditation for more than twenty-five years. She is an indoor disciple of Shifu Liu and holds Qigong certifications from London and from China — Jiu Jiu Huan Yuan Gong, “Return to Primordial Qi”, transmitted by the Wang family, and Da Bei, the practice of Great Compassion. She continues to train in the Chen lineage: in July 2026 she took part in Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang’s silk-reeling seminar in London, where the Grandmaster corrected her structure directly.
She qualified as a craniosacral therapist at the London College of Cranio-Sacral Therapy in 2004 and moved to the Drôme in 2015. That background informs how she teaches: listening to and observing body and mind, and connecting with the stillness underneath.
Her classes are open to all levels and no previous experience is needed. The practice builds and deepens gradually, through regular attendance and attention. Students report that since they began practising Qigong they notice changes — not only more ease in the body and a sense of wellbeing, but also feeling more grounded, and a deeper connection to the world around them.
On the mountain at Suze
Natalie’s own film of a class practising on the mountain at Suze, in the Drôme. The weekly classes themselves are in Crest.
